Last November, 2015, The Cake Cuppery's Cat got married at a spectacular Gatsby glam wedding at Tankardstown House and we've been waiting eagerly to show you ever since. A show stopper of a day Cat and Garry paid immense attention to detail to every aspect of their wedding day, resulting in a timeless celebration, captured by Elisha Clarke, that I know you're all going to adore...
Beautiful bride Cat describes how she and Garry first crossed paths..."Garry and I met nearly 7 years ago while I was taking an acting course in The Irish Film Academy. Garry was involved in a writing course and our classes would sometimes meet on Tuesday evenings after class for a drink in Temple Bar. We both got roped into helping a friend film a zombie movie out in Shankill one night. We had to be stand-in boyfriend and girlfriend and shoot a scene running down the street holding hands. Little did I know he would end up being my husband! We ended up chatting for hours. I can’t explain it, I just knew the when I held his hand that he was the one."
Without a doubt in his mind that Cat was the one Garry decided to propose. Cat tells us about the day..."My cake company ‘The Cake Cuppery’ was nominated for an award in February 2014. There was a big evening event on in Clontarf Castle so we decided to treat ourselves and stay the night in the hotel. Garry got there early and begged the staff to let him up to our room even though it wasn’t quite time for check in! They obliged and when I arrived he met me in the lobby and I had no idea how long he had been there. He was acting very strange as we walked up to our room. As I opened the door and walked into the room I saw rose petals everywhere! My immediate thought was; we’re in the honeymoon suite! We’re in the wrong room! But as I looked closer the rose petals on the bed spelled out ‘Turn Around’. So I did just and there he was down on one knee!! I nearly collapsed with happiness, I didn’t suspect a thing!! It ended up being the most amazing night, I got engaged, I won the award for ‘Best Wedding Cake Designer’ and I won a weekend away!! What a night!"
Elated, the cake designer began thinking about what style of wedding she loved the most. Having baked various styles of cakes and sweet treats for numerous beautiful Irish weddings it was hard to choose just one wedding style, but in the end Cat and Garry went for a glamorous winter Gatsby celebration with lots of rich reds and ample glitz and glam.
Cat recalls..."I’m a creative geek at heart and I love to plan everything so I was in my element from the get go! I spent hours trawling through Pinterest and wedding blogs before we finally decided on an old Hollywood glamour feel for the day with lots of sparkle. Both Garry and I love the winter and bold, rich colours so the style was very much in keeping with our taste."
The setting for both the humanist ceremony and Gatsby party was the chic Tankardstown House which Cat and Garry instantly fell in love with. Cat fondly told us..."It just had to be Tankardstown House. I’ve loved it since I first laid eyes on it, partially the Orangery! It is a really beautiful blank canvas; there are so many possibilities décor wise. I’ve been lucky enough with my job to visit many venues around Ireland delivering cakes so I already knew if we decided to get married in Ireland Tankardstown would be top of the list. Garry tends to trust my taste on pretty much everything so after we got engaged I brought him to see it! Needless to say he didn’t need any convincing!! As soon as he saw the Orangery that was it! The food was also very important to us, we wanted something extra special for our guests and we definitely weren’t disappointed."
Emulating old Hollywood glamour Cat wore a fitted embellished gown while her 6 bridesmaids each wore sparkling dresses in shades of gold and black. To complete the look Claire Barry then perfected Cat's hair in polished Hollywood waves and two of her sisters in relaxed vintage style bobs, while the men looked dapper in their suits and bow ties. So classic and beautiful!
A creative at heart Cat relished in designing and crafting each element of her wedding day. She describes the process..."With the help of my family and friends I spent hours glittering candle sticks, making labels and planning all the additional decorative details for the day. I couldn’t decide what to do with my cake so I designed an entire cake table instead! I don’t make things easy on myself that’s for sure! In the run up to the wedding my mother in law Siobhan made me the most amazing wedding advent calendar with presents to open every day. It was so thoughtful and special; I was completely blown away by it. Every bride to be should be treated to one of these!"
Cat continues..."On the morning of the wedding my mum gave me a present of a beautiful bottle of Maison Martin Margiela ‘Replica’ perfume. These are specially crafted memory scents that capture moments, periods and locations in people’s lives. Now every time I spray my perfume it reminds me of my wedding day! My dad passed away ten years so it was really important to me to plan something in memory of him. We put together a whiskey bar using some of Dad’s old crystal drink decanters and gave a toast to him at the end of the night. That was really special. When I was born my dad gave my mum a present of a ring with a blue sapphire diamond, which is also my birthstone. I had the ring resized and wore it on the day to ensure there was a little piece of him with me!"
To tie the whole look together Cat and Garry then had stationery and signage by As You Wish which was captured, along with every other picture perfect detail, by Elisha Clarke and videographer Story of Eve.
Cat advises..."My advice would be to ensure that every supplier you book for your day is also someone you would choose as a friend! This makes a huge difference the morning of the wedding as well, you don’t feel like there are loads of strange people in your house. You want it to be a comfortable and fun environment! Having a great relationship with your vendors makes planning really fun and stress free."
After their glam wedding Cat and Garry got busy saving for a luxury honeymoon, and will set off to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale followed by a Caribbean cruise this September. Huge congratulations to you both - hope you guys have the best time! Thanks so much for sharing your day with us all.
